Remote LIBS measurements of high voltage composite insulators

Remote LIBS of high voltage (HV) composite insulators was performed both at the laboratory (on samples cut from the insulators sheds) and outdoors at HEDNO experimental workstation in Heraklion (Crete). Investigation of the remote-LIBS technique in the laboratory was necessary for  the designing of the experimental set-up, to be used for on-site measurements, as well as for the optimization of the experimental parameters and methodology, which would enable the recording of high quality spectra containing information on the chemical modifications induced to field insulators in comparison to the stock insulators.
